Our lab specializes in developing novel interaction techniques, interactive devices, rapid fabrication, and sensing methods in the fields of mobile, tangible, and wearable computing. This position’s focus is to do research on advanced methods and tools for the digital fabrication of interactive objects and devices.
The lab is part of the German Cluster of Excellence on Multimodal Computing and Interaction. We have a strong research focus, a strong presence in the international key conferences of HCI, and ongoing collaborations with major international institutes. Saarbruecken offers a great environment for research in HCI, repeatedly ranking amongst the top locations worldwide at the CHI conference.

QUALIFICATIONSA successful candidate has:
- PhD degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, New Materials, or related field
- experience in the area of digital fabrication OR experience in printed electronics/new materials
- track record of publications in high-quality venues related to fabrication, human-computer interaction, and/or sensors
- creativity, independence
- excellent team working and communication skills, and high motivation for research at the intersection of HCI and new technologies
POSITION and ENVIRONMENTWe offer a fully funded post-doc position for two years. The start date is flexible, but fall or winter 2017 is preferred.
Your role will involve the design, prototyping, and evaluation of new fabrication tools and methods, as well as writing up the results for academic publication. You will contribute to the leadership of ongoing projects while also initiating new ones based on your unique background and expertise. You will also have the opportunity to supervise graduate and undergraduate students and (moderately) contribute to the teaching activities of the lab.
Salaries are internationally competitive, based on state employees salary scheme TV-L E 13 or E 14 (100%), and include health insurance and social insurance. The position is situated at the German Cluster of Excellence “Multimodal Computing and Interaction”. This cluster has been established as part of the German Universities Excellence Initiative to ensure outstanding conditions for cutting-edge research and to promote young scholars.
