Erasing-based Interactions

Erasing-based Interactions

Erasing-based Interactions TU Darmstadt 2010 Anoto pens are a powerful technology for capturing contents written on paper. However, current pens do not support eras-ing contents. We show how to easily construct refills for Anoto pens that allow to erase handwritten traces. Moreover, we discuss how to design software solutions that incorporate paper-based erasing as a first-level command.

PLink

PLink Paper-Based Links for Cross-Media Information Spaces / TU Darmstadt and UCSD 2011-2012 Digital media is becoming increasingly immanent at our workplaces, mixing up with more traditional media, such as Pen & Paper. In this project we opted for preserving the unique affordances of both medias by allowing for creating links to digital information on paper. We allow for various formats, ranging between small stickers […]

Mobile Multimedia Interaction

Mobile Multimedia Interaction

Mobile Multimedia Interaction TU Darmstadt 2009-2010 Increasingly powerful mobile devices enable users to access and watch videos in mobile settings. Videos can be used virtually anywhere and anytime. However, state of the art mobile video browsers do not efficiently support users in browsing within individual, semantically segmented videos and between the large amounts of related videos, e.g. available on the Web. Moreover, the field still […]

PaperVideo

PaperVideo Interacting with Videos On Paper-like Displays / TU Darmstadt 2010-2012 Analog paper is still often preferred over electronic documents due to specific affordances and rich spatial interaction, in particular if multiple pages are laid out and handled simultaneously. We investigated how interaction with video can benefit from paper-like displays that support interaction with motion and sound. We present a system that includes novel interaction […]

CloudDrops

CloudDrops Stamp-sized Pervasive Displays for Situated Awareness of Web-based Information CloudDrops is a pervasive awareness platform that integrates virtual information from the Web more closely with the contextually rich physical spaces in which we live and work. CloudDrops consists of many interactive stamp-sized displays, each showing a tiny bit of digital information. The large number of displays and their small size allows the user to […]

Collaborative Use of Rollable Displays

Collaborative Use of Rollable Displays

Collaborative Use of Rollable Displays TU Darmstadt 2011 In this project, we investigated how devices with rollable displays can be used for collaboration on-the-go. We developed a theoretical framework for designing user interfaces for this new class of devices. Based on this framework, we contribute a first implementation that supports users during mobile meetings. First evaluation results show that participants use resizing not only as […]

On-Body Displays

On-Body Displays

On-Body Displays On-body displays transform the human skin into an interactive surface, enabling in-situ access to digital contents and leveraging human physiology for interaction. On-body displays stand in the tradition of static body augmentations, like tattoos and nail polish, but enhance them by interactive input and visual output. In this project, we focus on the human hand and forearm – a well-visible area that supports […]

Foldio

Foldio

Foldio Digital Fabrication of Interactive and ShapeChanging Objects With Foldable Printed Electronics Foldios are foldable interactive objects with embedded input sensing and output capabilities. Foldios combine the advantages of folding for thin, lightweight and shape-changing objects with the strengths of thin-film printed electronics for embedded sensing and output. To enable designers and end-users to create highly custom interactive foldable objects, we contribute a new design […]

PrintScreen

PrintScreen

PrintScreen Fabricating Highly Customizable Thin-film Touch-Displays PrintScreen is an enabling technology for digital fabrication of customized flexible displays using thin-film electroluminescence (TFEL). It enables inexpensive and rapid fabrication of highly customized displays in low volume, in a simple lab environment, print shop or even at home. We show how to print ultra-thin (120 um) segmented and passive matrix displays in greyscale or multi-color on a […]

A Cuttable Multi-touch Sensor

A Cuttable Multi-touch Sensor

A Cuttable Multi-touch Sensor We propose cutting as a novel paradigm for ad-hoc customization of printed electronic components. As a first instantiation, we contribute a printed capacitive multi-touch sensor, which can be cut by the end-user to modify its size and shape. This very direct manipulation allows the end-user to easily make real-world objects and surfaces touch-interactive, to augment physical prototypes and to enhance paper […]
